Weekend faves: week 3: shine
by kricketsonthe boys are shining brightly this week.

Hey everyone!
Whenever I have to think about myself, my characteristics, and I have to ponder my defects and my qualities, often happens to me to realize that what might seem, at a quick glance, as an imperfection can be useful, and even a skill, in some occasion.
The difference is to learn how to put our skills to use. Or, better, the thing is to learn about ourselves and find a way to make our characteristics, the good and the bad, to work as an advantage, and to make us special, unique.
Whether it is the skill to make the world looks better, (like oneoftwocams)
Or the ability to do a lot of things at the same time (like myselfinpieces),

our skills are our weapons to conquer the world and to accomplish our dreams, and they’re a waste if not put to use.
Even if the skill is to stare at the computer. (Like renr)

I really enjoy this month’s challenge! I hope you enjoyed it too.
There have been so many beautiful self portraits this month and this one from 1hotmama is my out and out favourite for this week. I know we’re only supposed to post one image for each challenge, but I think the two versions of this one image complete this story well, so I’m going to bend the rules a little. And besides, how could I choose?
I love the detail of the first, how the experiences of motherhood are mapped on her body.

And then also the soft dreamy quality of this one.
And I think I’m not the only one who would identify with her words when she wrote that she found the nude theme
especially scary for this mom of four who is still learning what beautiful can be. So here I am, stripped of the ticky-tacky trappings we cover our lives in. What does that leave? Just me. Surrounded by love, yet not without scars. Emptied of my womanness, yet full of life.
Yes indeed, beautiful and full of life.
Hi everyone, this is Cris again.
I grew up with the idea of Politics as a thing distant from me. As I grew up Brazil was in a transition moment of History, because the people were craving for changes, for more rights, for democracy at its fullest. Back then I couldn’t realize how things would change so much in so little time, but I remember sitting with my Grandfather in the couch, watching a lot of men in suits arguing and talking to each other and holding up our flag - and let me just say I was always amazed by the lively green and shiny yellow of the Brazilian flag - and also there was Fafá de Belém, a Brazilian singer, singing Brazil’s National anthem, in a way that even today still gets me emotional.
Those were Congressmen voting for more freedom for the people. That was the vote for the new Constitution, and the Militaries were officially stepping down from the Government, and the general feel was relief and a breeze of new air - new ideas, new opportunities, changes - in History.
A few years later, I felt more a part of this thing called Politics when I painted my face green and yellow and joined thousands of others on the streets to impeach and take a corrupt politic from the presidency. But it still wasn’t then for me to realize how important our actions - as little as may seem right now - for the making of History.
It wasn’t only until a few years ago that I realized I, back then, was living at a turning point time in the History of my country, and then I started to understand that Politics are not distant or far. Even for those who don’t want to take a stand, or don’t want to get involved, it is impossible. If you live in a group, if you interact with you neighboors, it is already Politics.
This being said, the pictures that caught my eye were those reflecting the importance of the individual stand on subjects, any subject, and the influence one might have on the events of the community, or the society in general.
This one, for example, shows us that there’s no better equation for beauty than self-love, self-respect.

The next one reminds us about our choices. We are what we eat, and our lives are what we make of them, and Politics are, inevitably, the sum of our choices and actions as a part of a social group.

But the most significant for me this week was this one. It tells me we need to teach our children about what’s right and wrong, what’s good and what’s bad, because is their duty to continue the steps we take today. And, as we are responsible for the political choices and decisions today, we have to gaze to the past as children, and avoid the mistakes made in the past, in order to grow as a civilization.

I don’t know if I was able to express my idea of Politics. Because Politics, as I see it, is not only a matter of choosing between Democrats and Republicans, it is part of every decision we make, in any level of life.
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. Happy Easter for those, as myself, who celebrate Easter. And keep in mind, History is what we make of it everyday.
This month’s challenge seems to be one that has everyone feeling a bit hesitant to participate. We’ve been more apt to gladly show off our body parts and imperfections than bare what motivates us on a political level. I find that quite intriguing. Why is it easier to reveal our skins over our truest thoughts?
Political isn’t a dirty word. As Holli pointed out earlier this week, it’s true meaning is the process by which we make decisions. It encourages discourse between us on a wide range of topics that touch our lives in many ways. It’s far more encompassing than questions of whether we go to war or pay a tax. If you do not consider politics part of your world, I challenge you to think and look again.
You do not need to to be rich or powerful to be engaged in a political way. The only requirement is that you are interested in conversation with others and coming to a decision about where you stand after weighing all the options.
The photos I’ve chosen this week are all examples of individuals doing just that. They’ve chosen to tackle the issue of the politics of consumption. Each has thought a great deal about where our resources come from and how they choose to use them. In all of these cases, their stand requires of them to make a change in how they choose to feed their families, heat their homes and illuminate their worlds.
I think they’ve started my kind of party.

it seems as though many are shying away from the theme this month. the link list is pretty slim. which, i completely understand on so many levels. but, from what is here, there are some pretty cool, meaningful images that i am loving. here they are in no particular order…

acumamakiki *perceptions

until next month…
This has been a hard theme for me. I’ve been completely uninspired.
I think blue was a genius choice for this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. February is a blue month. The only saving grace is that it is only 28/29 days. I saw that shade of blue reflected in many of the photos this time. I can’t wait till next month!!

Greetings, fellow SPC’ers.
Although it feels like I post here once in a blue moon, its good to be back on schedule to share my favorites for week two of the month’s challenge. I spent several mornings this week sipping coffee from a blue mug (albeit not as bright or big as JC’s) as I visited every one of you who posted this week. You all did a BLUE-TIFUL job this week.
The photos I’d like to feature this week are those that exhibited a spirit of playfulness. Whether that means just looking totally at bliss or playing with gender roles or dressing up like a pretty, pretty princess. All of these images make me feel like cutting loose.
Until next month,
Rachel
January was a pretty short month - only 3 weeks of the month to upload - however it was fantastic - I loved seeing how everyone celebrates/or not.
A while ago we did a RED challenge which was a heap of fun - so I thought we might do BLUE.
Blue is a cool colour - its the colour of the sky and of the water. But apart from its visual representation blue can also mean a number other things too - lonely and depressed [feeling blue]; sexual impropriety, or racy talk [blue jokes], blasphemous [blue language], aristocracy [blue blood].
The colour Blue in your chakra: Dark, clear Blue indicates a spiritual feeling. Light blue shows devotion to noble, spiritual ideals and the presence of the feminine energies. Muddy blue shows heavy karma, selfishness, possible non-belief in spirituality. Blue shows an active effort to communicate in a gentle way.
Hi everyone, this is Cris again! This supposed to be a Friday #3 post, but, hey, maybe I’ve been out there living life so much - and, yes, celebrating it in every way that I can - that I got busy yesterday. Here in Brasil its midsummer, and I got caught into celebrating the weather, the summer holidays, and the fact that the sun doesn’t go down until almoust 9 pm, giving me a great excuse to be out getting toegether with friends almoust everynight. Next month I promise to get on time!I have to confess I was a little disappointed with our SPC break in December: I was very excited I would have to write about joy right on my birthday. But celebrating is also a very good theme and allows me to think about (and take pictures of) a much wider variety of events and reasons to be joyfull.Inspired by a blog I recently came to know (3for365), I decided, as one of my New Year’s resolutions, to come up with at least one good thing, everyday, to find out at least one reason to be gracefull and festive about my life. It’s been not so easy as I thought, since I get so caught up in planning my tomorrows that sometimes I just disregard my present and the good things happening to me at the very minute I’m living. And, from all the great pictures everyone send, showing all kinds of celebrations, I picked the ones that made more aware of the importance to live the present with all my attention and awareness. Also, the photos helped me realize that even a little thing can be a good reason or a good way to celebrate life.
