Week after week the art that this group creates just fascinates me. I agree with Shelba, I thought that picking unique pictures for this post was going to be really difficult.
I had to stop and think about what self-portraits meant to me… Not to make it sound like this really deep, intellectual, over-thought process… But when I started taking pictures of myself, honestly, it was for pretty selfish reasons. No one ever seemed to be around to capture those little moments I wanted to remember.
It really takes me back to my ramblings last week, there is just something very honest about sticking out your camera and snapping a picture of yourself… and depending on the moment it could be an insight to a private moment of your life or just something to remember a special weekend. Let’s look…
Here she is all dressed in her summer attire. There is some greenery out the window, and she looks comfortable and relaxed, like she’s been lounging in the pile of linen behind her for hours. What better way to remind yourself what relaxation can do for you when you head back to the daily grind?
Here’s a picture that feels a bit more personal. Is she happy, tired, content, blue? Only someone close to her would know for sure, but she chose to capture and remember this moment for a reason.
I happen to love this one because it reminds me of a friend who has a whole series of pictures of his feet in different places. It marks a place. It shows that you in fact, by way of your own two feet, were there. What better way to remember a walk like this one?
As a mother of two, I also make this face a lot. Nikki’s version is titled,”.. as a thinker,” mine would be titled something more like,”What where you thinking?” We all work to capture these beautiful, happy pictures of ourselves, but what about those thoughtful days? Sometimes you need to remember those too..
I think this is my favorite picture for today. Composition aside… (though I love how her gigantic sunglasses disappear into her hair.) You know those days where your hair “flips” right, your clothes fit right, you have your favorite sunglasses, and you have time to indulge in your favorite treat? The day is going your way and you can’t help but to snap a shot to remember it…
There are so many more, I’d be here all day… But alas, I’m allotted only 5 picks. Can’t wait to see what you guys produce next week, -Amy
What a great month this has been for SPC submissions. When I first saw Joy’s picks for the week and I saw her amazing choices I thought, “Wow, she must have picked all the good ones.” But nope, she didn’t. I found tons more amazing photographs to choose from and I had a difficult time narrowing down my five faves. Y’all are good.

As Dusk. This is dreamy. It seems that she might be under water. She is an angel with a halo to prove it. I love that a wee bit of her profile is exposed, that her hair is pulled back into a bun, and the little v on the back of her dress. This is just so lovely, so very, very lovely. She makes me feel like going towards the light and following her into the deep end. So well done!
Caged Pixels
As my husband. When I saw this, I laughed out loud. First, I know that Lori is gorgeous. I know this. But as her husband (who is also gorgeous), she looks strange. She is not “hideous” as her husband, but just very strange. Every time I look at this I burst out laughing. It might also be the caption she has for the photo, “Look away, I’m hideous!” Oh gosh, Lori, you make me feel like laughing.
Intrepid Flame
As wet. Wet indeed! Another wonderful image. The water pouring off of his head, weighing his hair down on his face. He seems so calm for having a bunch of water poured on him. That it is in black and white is perfect. I knew the moment I saw this that this had to be in my top 5. He makes me feel like gasping for air.
Toinenoma
Me as a ghost. I love that I have to move around to get a quick glimpse of what is in this photograph. It is spooky, cool, and lovely all at once. Very clever. She makes me feel like throwing out my Ouija board.
You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down
As future. I love the post as much as I love this photograph. Very, very clever. If you haven’t read it, check it out. Her past and her future are in this photograph. Look at those eyes! She is gorgeous and thoughtful. She makes me feel like moving forward.
this month has been SO fun!!!! I’ve love love loved looking at everyones “me as…” photos!!! Picking was hella hard! I started with 20 I loved and had to cut back! Enjoy my favorites!
me as devotee
how could i not pick such a GORGEOUS photo! i just love the imagery!
me as someone other than myself
read her story! she thinks she’s alone, but i think she’s more like the rest of us than she thinks.
me as entranced
love the photo! love the music picks! just wonderful!
me as a pimp
she doesn’t look much like a pimp, but i just like her hat
me as a rorschach test
some about this draws me to it:) it looks like two angry crook nosed men staring each other down.
me as girl with a pearl earring
she did a great job portraying this piece of art!
me as creative clones
don’t you wish you had creative clones?
me as a sunbather
i love the perspective from the grass up! and I had to get a man up in this piece:)
me as organized plastic
this is amazing…..all tiny plastic pieces organized into a face…..i had to include it:)
It’s time once again to take a break from your life and check out how five other people are living theirs. Actually, 10 other people… All my picks were of couples this week.
Someone pointed out to me once that in the photos I take alone I tend to use the same smile or expression over and over, but if my husband or children are in the picture with me, my expression is much more animated and pure. So this week I studied the energy between two people, and here are some great examples.
…
It’s a simple picture, mother and son, but you can tell there’s a connection there. She’s more than his provider, she’s his safety, his teacher, his world.
There’s no pose, this could be a quiet moment on any day between them. They have hit the pause button on life’s chaos and they are just being together. Shouldn’t we all pause life and just ‘be’ a little more?
…
If you follow Tammy’s posts at all you know she’s been through a lot. She’s very open about her experiences, her past, and what’s to come. Her strength seems never ending, and how could it not be? Look how she is loved.
Again, this is such an honest expression of love and comfort with each other. It’s so candid… a second that she can now remember for a lifetime.
…
This is such a cool idea! I always wondered how they did those cool stencils! If you click the image you can see the original and how this was made. Compare the original with the stencil… you can still see her happiness in the stark contrast of the stencil. Looks spur of the moment… almost last minute
…
Someday, about ten or so years from now, when the little one runs out the door with the car keys and her girlfriends, mom is going to look back on this picture fondly. This may or may not be their favorite picture but it documents the bond between daughter and mother so well. The matching freckles, eyes, and smiles, what a perfect memory.
…
Ok, now I know this isn’t two PEOPLE, but it still feel really candid and honest. Let me tell you, if that were my head this image would have more of a live action feel… my arms flailing around and a really horrified look on my face. She just looks to comfortable… “Yeah, there’s a big creepy bug on my head, let me take a picture…”
I’m sold… I think couples pictures have a truth to them, don’t you?
Till next week - Amy
Oh, and don’t forget to watch for the ‘readers choice’ post and vote for your favorite picture this week… We like to hear from you!
Hi, Shelba here again. This week is going to be an extra short post because I’m in Chicago (instead of my usual Austin, TX) and I’m having to hog up my friend’s computer to do this. So this Thursday’s post will be short and sweet.
Gays Knit
She makes me feel like twirling and whirling in a pretty skirt.
Viourages
I love the angle of that gorgeous fan and her legs stretched out before the camera. She makes me feel like sitting out on the porch.
The Poo Poo Platter
He has a red halo around his head! Perhaps he is a dark angel. He makes me feel like checking under the bed before I go to sleep.
The Whole Self
I can relate to this in a big way as my daughter is always on my hip. I had never thought about it like this though, that I am transportation, but it is true. She makes me feel like I can relate to her in a big, huge way.
Hello everyone, I hope your weekend has started off right.
There’s something terribly wrong with mine, but it has everything to do with the fact that it’s 8am, 78 degrees F, and 89% humidity. Blech.
If you’re in the same boat, grab an iced coffee, lemonade, cool bottle of water… turn on the a/c, hit the fan… and sit back and enjoy some refreshing photographic images, you deserve it! *wink*
First off I love the photo booth effect where not all the images are perfect and each are very different… and second, they look like they are having a BLAST. Doesn’t this make you want to pick up the phone and call a good friend?
It’s such a simple toy and yet it means so much to her. I love the colors of this image, the outdoor setting, and Liz’s obvious joy to have found a toy from her childhood. This could be an ad, look at her smile!
Isn’t this image cool? Now read how Danny did it, there’s no photoshop-ing the images together here folks, just a touch of color tweaking.
I love the feeling this image gives me. I remember those days where I needed to express my individuality, needed to dress to make a statement, had to wear my angst like a billboard. The half shadow half light, the contrast of her skin to her clothes, and the fade out at her boots… This is a great image.
And my final pick this week… I think I’m going to follow her lead and do some positive meditation. I love how, though reality would tell you this image is false, she cautiously chose to levitate over her bed. Great submission!
Ok, time for another cup of coffee, till next week everyone.
-A
I’m coming to you from San Francisco this week instead of my usual Austin, TX. Since I’m on vacation, this will be brief. But I just wanted to mention that my list of faves this week was long and it included every single one of Elizaboothy’s picks. So many good entries!
Fish Heads Zine
As finding her soul. I like this because I can’t help but stare into this image trying to figure out where she is. Sometimes I think I see her, but then she is gone. She makes me feel like looking harder.
Cruset of Ideas
As a fool. Total despair is what I get out of this. Something went terribly wrong and this makes me feel like hoping that everything is okay now.
Weaker Vessel
As wind. Oh yeah, this is wind. If wind had a face this would be it. But I’m glad wind doesn’t have a face because while wind looks lovely, she would frighten the hell out me if this is what I saw on a windy day. She makes me feel spooked.
Wow. I’ve found this challenge particularly intimidating because the possibilities are so endless. I must say, I’m amazed by this week’s photos — both by those of you who chose to capture what you already are and by those of you who chose to delve into fantasy. Here are some of my faves:
