Every Picture Tells a Story: Celebration 3 (Holli’s Pick)

by holli

I’ve been struggling with so many things right now and I can’t seem to find my groove. Just the fact (to me) it will be a huge achievement to get ONE SPC on my blog this month should speak volumes. This post isn’t about me (well, not really) but I loved the irony of finding a picture that told the story of motherhood when you’re down in it - but you’ve found your pace… and the title of the blog was “always a day late.”

The picture is pure charm and almost too perfect. I know if someone snapped me doing laundry with a baby in a basket it would not look that pretty, but that’s my dream right now. I want to be back to my crazed, frenetic pace where it was all in the air, but perfectly balanced.

That’s the beauty of art. We can choose to show ourselves at our best or our worst. And nobody ever knows what is reality unless they are in your shoes or in your house.

I have no idea if this is what it really looks like in Tonya’s house when she’s multi-tasking and cleaning, but if so… I so need pointers. And I am SO jealous.

Either way I love the picture. End of report.

Celebration — Week 3 (Jeremy’s Picks)

I can’t believe we’re already on week 3 of this challenge.

Here are my favorites from this week:

Friday #3 - Celebrating!

by Cris Moreira

Hi everyone, this is Cris again! This supposed to be a Friday #3 post, but, hey, maybe I’ve been out there living life so much - and, yes, celebrating it in every way that I can - that I got busy yesterday. Here in Brasil its midsummer, and I got caught into celebrating the weather, the summer holidays, and the fact that the sun doesn’t go down until almoust 9 pm, giving me a great excuse to be out getting toegether with friends almoust everynight. Next month I promise to get on time!I have to confess I was a little disappointed with our SPC break in December: I was very excited I would have to write about joy right on my birthday. But celebrating is also a very good theme and allows me to think about (and take pictures of) a much wider variety of events and reasons to be joyfull.Inspired by a blog I recently came to know (3for365), I decided, as one of my New Year’s resolutions, to come up with at least one good thing, everyday, to find out at least one reason to be gracefull and festive about my life. It’s been not so easy as I thought, since I get so caught up in planning my tomorrows that sometimes I just disregard my present and the good things happening to me at the very minute I’m living. And, from all the great pictures everyone send, showing all kinds of celebrations, I picked the ones that made more aware of the importance to live the present with all my attention and awareness. Also, the photos helped me realize that even a little thing can be a good reason or a good way to celebrate life.

Every Picture Tells a Story: Celebration 2 (Holli’s Pick)

by holli

Once again I am the lone person who forgot to post their SPC - I don’t know if this speaks to my state of mind (am I not up to celebrating?), but I just spent hours feeling like a ghost wandering through private parties. This was one of the most personal challenges yet for a lot of you - the joy was evident, as was the fresh breath of a new year.

My pick this week is one of my favorite pictures yet - and I just can’t put my finger on why. It’s so simple and there’s so much emotion in it.

Every single one of us had a childhood - be it good or bad. We all have our own stories to tell. There is something about an empty swing that says so much (without saying a word).

Was yours good? Was yours bad - or somewhere in between?

Either way I celebrate the chance to do it all over again as an adult. We all get “do-overs.” Nothing is permanent in this life. Happy New Year - welcome to 2008. Let’s choose to make things better this year - or celebrate how good we’ve had it.

In lieu of my own post - I celebrate having such a wonderful friend in Luzie.

Thank you all for your patience over the holiday break and for participating in SPC during 2007. I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and celebrated well in your own personal style. I am looking forward to seeing all of these celebration pictures - you can start uploading now.

I am now back at work with a huge to-do list after almost 3 weeks at the beach. I live in inland Australia and my husband and I took the kids for a longer than usual camping/beach holiday - encompassing Christmas and New Year. We celebrated with a beach BBQ and Pavlova, beach cricket and of course a lovely swim in the ocean and lots of sand castle building. The highlights of the holiday for the kids were learning to kayak, jumping off of a rope swing into the river and catching a fish big enough to eat. For me the best thing was that finally the kids are big enough and good enough swimmers to not need constant supervision and I was able to read four books and swim every day in the ocean.

I am excited to see the direction that SPC will take in the next year. I am looking forward to new and old participants and to seeing lots of original an amazing self portraits. Please feel free to send me your thematic ideas for the coming months. email me selfportraittuesday[at]gmail.com
