February challenge - Black & White

by kricketson

Something fun and creative to push your photography skills as well as your artistic and self analysis.

Whether you do something classic, retro, or modern - black and white photography is really versatile and still totally relavent in the digital age.

some tips on black and white digital photography can be found hereand here and here and here.

Some ideas and inspiration this month I have taken from flickr - black and white photography is a wonderful medium for expressing emotion and a sense of place.

Ideas - give it a go…
Something a little raw - depict your strength : make the image dark moody and brooding : glamorous with a vintage twist : set up a scene - re-enact a scenario : have some fun - be playful : thoughtful : experiment with digital layering : a short self documentary : a sense of place - an event : a little daring : just be yourself - natural : your environment takes on something different :

New

by noted

There are lots of symbols of new that are used throughout the world.

If the propaganda around Easter is true then you have:

Bilbies, Bunnies, Chicks, Eggs

Then Babies are new, fertility gods and goddesses represent new life.

In Hinduism, fire is used to represent new life…

TV shows depict new with TV actors breathing in their new cars and telling us how great it feels, opening a packet, the colour of white.

Do you have a new friend? A new toothbrush? A new outlook on life?

Show us!

Love,

P.S. I’m sure it’s still Tuesday in some part of the world!

New year’s resolutions… I suppose we’ll see how serious we all really are about these things by the end of the month. I think I try and make mine baby steps so that I have a better shot at sticking to them for the long haul. I’m not sure, where did this tradition come from?

Here are my favorites this week:

Mom on a Wire - Pay attention.

Live Inspired - Let it go.

Notes On Life - Breathe deeply.

LeSophie - Be happy.

Violet Metamorphosis - Live…

Till next week,
